Depending on the operating system (OS) and the browser being used, Internet usage is tracked in a specialized database.  Each browser and OS function differently and the data they track is very volatile.  URL’s visited (web sites), cookies accepted, searches, graphics and re-directs are often tracked.  The Internet History can also contain files that were accessed on the computer, unrelated to Internet usage.
